Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses fine needles to make miniscule, evenly-spaced micro-injuries to the skin. This triggers the body’s wound healing process, stimulates healthy surrounding tissue to repair the damage, and brings the skin back to its healthiest looking state.

This repair process helps reduce the appearance of dark spots, wrinkles, sagging, and texture irregularities such as acne pitting or stretch marks.

Who is not a candidate for Microneedling?
Microneedling is generally safe for all skin types, but those who are pregnant, have a history of eczema, psoriasis, herpes, diabetes and other chronic conditions should consult with their Doctor for approval.

Does it hurt?
It can be uncomfortable in certain areas of your face. However, the treatment is fairly quick, and we recommend the application of a numbing cream beforehand.

How many treatments do I need?
With any advanced skin treatment, a series of treatments is recommended for long lasting, visible results. It will always depend on your unique skin and goals, but generally, a series of 3 treatments spaced one month apart and then annual maintenance is recommended.

How much downtime is there?
The skin will appear red for four hours post treatment.  There’s no significant downtime with this minimally invasive procedure.

How does reflexology work?

One of the main methods of healing by reducing stress though the practice of reflexology, is allowing homeostasis to return to all systems of the body.  For healing to occur a person is assisted into a state of deep relaxation, as well as specific energy blockages or areas of imbalance being targeted during a treatment.
When the nervous system is brought back into a parasympathetic state, then many symptoms, both the physical and the psychological, will be relieved.

Treatments that Tamar offers are full investigatory sessions, covering all systems of the body and will always include an initial consultation to hold space and discuss main areas of concern. A course of weekly sessions is recommended for acute conditions, moving to fortnightly or monthly sessions once healing has begun.

How does facial cupping work?

When you squeeze your Facial Cup onto an area of your face, a gentle suction is created. This draws blood flow towards the surface of your skin. This increased blood flow in the skin underneath the cup and surrounding tissues encourages the formation of new blood vessels. The suction also creates a controlled mini-trauma in the skin (in the same way as micro-needling and derma-rollers would), which prompts a natural healing process in the skin. More oxygenated blood flows to the area, collagen and fibroblast production is stimulated, and the skin cells are encouraged to reproduce. The result? Skin that feels and looks more plump, healthy and glowing.

How does moxibustion work?

The moxa is placed on the point and lit, but is extinguished or removed before it burns the skin. The patient will experience a pleasant heating sensation that penetrates deep into the skin. Alternatively, the practitioner lights one end of a moxa stick, roughly the shape and size of a cigar, and holds it close to the area being treated for several minutes until the area turns red. Another form of indirect moxibustion uses both acupuncture needles and moxa. A needle is inserted into an acupoint and retained. The tip of the needle is then wrapped in moxa and ignited, generating heat to the point and the surrounding area. After the desired effect is achieved, the moxa is extinguished and the needle(s) removed.

What is moxibustion used for?

In traditional Chinese medicine, moxibustion is used on people who have a cold or stagnant condition. The burning of moxa is believed to expel cold and warm the meridians, which leads to smoother flow of blood and qi. In Western medicine, moxibustion has successfully been used to turn breech babies into a normal head-down position prior to childbirth. Other studies have shown that moxibustion increases the movement of the foetus in pregnant women, and may reduce the symptoms of menstrual cramps when used in conjunction with traditional acupuncture.

How does Cupping Therapy work?

Cups are rounded and can be made of rubber, glass or very occasionally, bamboo. The practitioner creates a vacuum inside the cup and quickly places it onto the skin where treatment is needed. The cup is left in place for anything up to 20 minutes. The practitioner will often use several cups in one treatment.

If large areas of the body need treating, a technique known as ‘sliding cups’ is used. A thin layer of massage oil is spread over the skin, the cups are then placed onto the body in the usual way and slid along the muscles being treated. This sliding method helps the blood and ‘qi’ to flow more easily in areas of stagnation.

Is it painful?

Cupping is not painful, however it can leave reddish patches on the skin, like circular bruises. Although these marks resemble bruises, the muscles have not been traumatised in any way. The redness on the skin indicates that there has been movement in the circulation of blood under and around the cups. Not all cupping will result in redness as this depends on the complaint being treated.

Cupping is often used for tight muscles, where there is not sufficient circulation, it can also be beneficial for abdominal concerns including Crohns, IBS, Infertility and Menstrual pain.

How does it work?
